Julianna Lamb earns SVFSC honor

Julianna Lamb, an eighth grader at The Community School, was presented with the Sun Valley Figure Skating Club?s ?Herman Maricich Sports Achievement Award? at the club?s annual awards ceremony Sunday at the Sun Valley outdoor ice rink.

The Sun Valley Figure Skating Club hosted its annual awards ceremony May 20 at the Sun Valley outdoor ice rink.

Twenty-three local skaters received recognition for their accomplishments in skating tests and competitions that took place throughout the mountain states during the past twelve months.

Julianna Lamb, an eighth grader at The Community School in Sun Valley, received the Herman L. Maricich Achievement Award for her accomplishments in competition this past year.

She stood on the podium at third place or above 16 times, received Most Outstanding Showcase trophies at both the Sun Valley and Jackson Hole competitions, and became the U.S. Figure Skating Association's Intermediate Light Showcase champ in Chicago.

This is the first national title won by an amateur skater from the Wood River Valley.

The Maricich Award was established by the Club in honor of Herman Maricich, who built the indoor ice rink and served as director of skating from 1956 until his retirement in 1989. Recipients of the Award for the previous five years are Ali Butler (twice), Lauren Farr, Montana Burns and Sierra Dickens.

Several SVFSC skaters were recognized for passing USFSA tests this year, qualifying many of them to compete at more advanced levels. Kayla Carrigan of Idaho Falls received her Gold Medal in Dance for completing all 23 dance tests.

The awards ceremony opened with an exhibition of award-winning competition routines performed on the Sun Valley outdoor ice rink. After the exhibition, all skaters who participated in competition or USFSA testing received certificates of achievement listing tests passed and medals won.
