It was quite a day for golfers and The Suns Foundation Inc. Saturday at The Valley Club.

Twenty-five fivesomes and 125 golfers enjoyed the first annual Sun Valley Suns Golf Classic that raised money for the Sun Valley Suns men's ice hockey program and for junior golf programs in the valley.

Suns coach and co-tournament organizer Chris Benson said the tourney raised a little over $15,000. Co-tournament organizer Reamy Goodwin was pleased with the financial help to his new Wood River Junior Golf Association.

Format was five-person modified best ball with handicaps—and it was all done in five hours and 15 minutes. Teams picked their best drive and played their own balls into the hole—picking the best two scores on handicap.

The first-place team with a score of 102 (combined two best ball scores with handicaps) were Suns pro Mikael Reijo, Harry Weekes, Jack Weekes, John Weekes and Page Jenner.

In second place (105) were Suns pro Rian Timmons plus Chris Stephens, Ken Herich, Baird Gourlay and Barry Bevers. In third place (107) were Suns pro Paul Cox plus Phil Doerflein, Jim Rienlen, Jim Hobbs and Gile Williams.

Suns pro Adam Swain belted the longest drive, 327 yards on the 10th hole. Lori Johnston, from the ladies tee, was only 30 yards behind Swain and took the women's long drive honor.

Closest-to-the-pin winners were Jackie Damerel on #6, Charles Friedman on #16, Kris Miller #2 and Larry Lloyd #13.
