Airport reopening right on schedule

Friedman Memorial Airport in Hailey will reopen as scheduled at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 23, after a monthlong runway reconstruction project.

Work on resurfacing the runway is ahead of schedule. However, because recalling airline and airport workers early would be difficult, operations will not resume any earlier than as planned, airport officials said this week.

Friedman's single runway is composed of layers of material, some of it 20 years old, that has been suffering erosion in some areas because of moisture. Rather than conduct patchwork repairs, the airport authority decided to rebuild the strip.
