On Tuesday, May 23, Blaine County citizens have a chance to prove their compassion and financial prowess. An election question will be presented that will allow the Blaine County Commissioners to sell, at or above appraised value, the site of Blaine Manor.
Everyone should know that Blaine Manor now takes over $600,000 annual subsidy, above its operating income. This won't go on forever. We can take the proceeds from the sale and join the public/private partnership known as Croy Canyon Foundation. The result will be a new, elder-care facility with three levels of care, including a new duplicate of Blaine Manor. All levels of income in the county will be served.
Do yourself a favor and make the smart choice. Vote "yes" on the Blaine Manor proposal.
Bellevue voters will also be voting on a proposal to again increase property taxes. In light of recent doubling of water and sewer rates, this proposal shouldn't be difficult for voters to decide.
