Vote to support senior care

Blaine County Commissioners wish to express their strong support for your "yes" vote in the Tuesday, May 22, special election. The ballot asks: "Should Blaine County sell the Blaine Manor continuing care facility for seniors and apply the proceeds to a new facility that would provide skilled nursing care and also assisted and independent living options for seniors?"

The combination of these three services together in one facility will make continuing care for seniors financially viable in the long term. Blaine Manor, which provides only skilled nursing care at a cost to taxpayers of over $600,000 per year, is not.

The Board of County Commissioners created a public-private partnership with the Croy Canyon Ranch Foundation specifically to plan, finance, build, staff and endow a senior care facility to replace Blaine Manor. The foundation has assembled an outstanding board of local leaders, a leading national developer of senior care centers and an architect skilled in environmentally sustainable design. The result will be an attractive and dignified, complete eldercare facility for the people of the Wood River region.

The community is assured of a continuing commitment to those not financially independent through the county's service agreement with the foundation. Capacity and levels of care "equal to or better than the current level of services at Blaine Manor" and continued Medicare and Medicaid eligibility are part of this agreement.

Please vote "yes" on May 22 to selling Blaine Manor. Be part of the dream to provide a financially stable and diversified long-term solution to senior living in Blaine County.
