Elaine O?Connor

Elaine O'Connor, of Sun Valley, Idaho, passed away peacefully at home on May 11, 2007.

She was born on Dec. 5, 1934 in Pocatello, Idaho, the daughter of George and Katherine Sakelaris. Elaine attended schools in Pocatello and graduated from Idaho State in 1956. She was an elementary school teacher in Idaho and later in Oxford, England.

On July 30, 1960, she married John O'Connor and they resided in Rome, N.Y.; Hong Kong, China; Trumbull, Conn., and Berlin, Germany, before retiring to Sun Valley. Elaine became very involved in hiking and cross-country skiing and thoroughly enjoyed the time she spent with her friends in these activities. She was also very active in the Community Library, Gold Mine thrift shop and P.E.O. Sisterhood. Elaine had a wonderful green thumb, and even though the weather was a challenge in Sun Valley, she always had a beautiful flower garden.

She is survived by her husband John O'Connor; her son Patrick O'Connor; her daughter Carolyn O'Connor Rainville and her husband Gene together with their children Sophie and Charlie. Elaine is also survived by her two brothers Angelo and Michael and her special sister Semo Waldo.

A Vigil service will be held on Thursday, May 17, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. and a Greek Orthodox service on Friday, May 18, at 10 a.m. Both services will be at Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church in Sun Valley. The burial will be immediately following at the Ketchum Cemetery and a luncheon will be served at 12:30 p.m. at the American Legion Hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Community Library, P.O. Box 2168, Ketchum, Idaho 83340 or Hospice of the Wood River Valley, P.O. Box 4320, Ketchum, Idaho 83340.

Arrangements are under the care of Wood River Chapel of Hailey.
