With a pair of top 20 performances, Ryan Parnes helped propel Stanford University to the overall Division 1 team championship at the 2007 USA Cycling Collegiate Road National Championships in Lawrence, Kansas, May 11-13.

Parnes attended Wood River High School and Silver Creek Alternative School in Hailey.

Pedaling for the Stanford Cycling Club, Parnes finished 11th overall in the road race, completing the 84-mile course in 3.46:35. USA Cycling National Development Team rider Alex Boyd won the race in 3.46:09 in a field of 138.

Parnes, a junior class member at Stanford in Palo Alto, Calif., was also 11th in the men's criterium, less than a minute behind the leader, Phil Mann of Colorado State University.

The Cardinal quartet with riders Parnes, Rand Miller, Evan Pickett and Gavin Melly finished sixth in the team time trial.

As a national champion, Parnes is now the proud owner of a stars-and-stripes championship jersey. The USA Cycling Development Foundation will also contribute a total of $5,000 to the top three programs in the final Division I and II team standings.

Stanford amassed 519 points to runner-up University of California-Davis' 430. Overall team titles were determined by point contributions from both the men's and women's squads.

Ryan is the son of Andy and Kate Parnes of Hailey.
