Idaho unemployment rate unchanged

Labor force gains across Idaho in April kept the state's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate at a record low 2.8 percent for the third straight month, the Idaho Department of Commerce and Labor reported. Nearly 734,000 people were working in Idaho last month, more than at any other time, the Commerce and Labor report indicates.

"The basic economy is good," state Labor Economist Janell Hyer said. "We're seeing a trend in employment. It may go up or down month-to-month, but the overall trend will be gradually up."

According to the Commerce and Labor Department, Idaho's unemployment rate has been below the national rate for 67 straight months. The nation's average unemployment rate now stands at 4.5 percent.

The addition of 3,000 people to Idaho's labor force and employment rolls was the largest increase between March and April since 1994.
