School district expands preschool program

After two years of research and study, followed by a year of successfully piloting preschool at Bellevue and Carey Elementary Schools, the Blaine County School District's board of trustees unanimously has approved the expansion of preschools to all district-run elementary schools.

The programs will be offered, free of charge, to children 4 years old before Sept. 1, beginning with the 2007-2008 school year. Morning programs will be offered at each site as well. If enrollment exceeds capacity, additional afternoon preschool programs will also be included.

The district announced that Head Start students will have the option to be dual-enrolled in their two-day a week Head Start program as well as attend their neighborhood public preschool.

Parents and children are encouraged to attend a special preschool curriculum information evening on May 9, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at the Community Campus in Hailey. The presentation will be in English and Spanish for the free event.
