Valley rivals fought a nail biter Tuesday on the Sun Valley tennis courts with The Community School prevailing 7-5 over Wood River High School.
Several hotly contested matches kept the outcome in question, but the Cutthroat girls ultimately led their team to victory. The Community School won all three of its girls' singles matches, both of its girls' doubles contentions and one of two in mixed doubles.
"We had great wins from the Cutthroat girls," said Community School coach Phil Huss. All the girls won, that was really neat."
The Community School's Mandy Alexander dueled with Wood River's Anna Chrysikopoulos in a three set battle that ended with Alexander the victor. After losing the first set 6-0, Alexander rebounded in the final two sets 6-6, 6-2.
Cutthroat Cody Curran and Wolverine Tanya Greenwood fought a grueling three-hour match that ended with Curran on top 7-5, 4-6, 7-5.
Emily O'Reilly continued her undefeated season with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Wood River's Jordan Hendricks.
Huss described Tuesday's meet as "another nail biter between the Cutthroat and Wolverine tennis teams." The teams tied 6-6 the last time they met.
The Community School hosts Burley today at 3:30 p.m. Caldwell comes to Sun Valley for an 11 a.m. meet on Saturday, and next Tuesday the Cutthroats host teams from Sugar-Salem and Gooding with meets scheduled to start at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. respectively.

Wood River defeats Burley
After Tuesday's tennis loss, the Wolverines redeemed themselves with an 8-4 win over the Burley Bobcats in Burley on Wednesday.
The victory over the Bobcats boosted Wood River's Great Basin Conference West record to 6-3. The Wolverines are 8-5-1 overall.
Boys' doubles partners Connor Fairman and Morgan Pike won their match to remain undefeated for the year, as did the mixed doubles duo of Cory Rutkowski and Whitney DeBree.
The Wood River boys' singles squad also put on a strong performance, with Alex Henning, R.J. Forgeon and Scott Pike all winning their matches.
The Wolverines wrapped up a busy week on Thursday, playing host to the Minico Spartans.
