A former Hailey woman who was charged with embezzling more than $14,000 from her employer has pleaded guilty to a lesser offense and been placed on 18 months unsupervised probation.

After pleading guilty to misdemeanor petit theft, 42-year-old Laurie Wolfley was sentenced in Blaine County Magistrate Court on April 25. In addition to probation, she was fined $150, ordered to pay $72.50 in court costs and given a withheld judgment, which means that the conviction can be dropped from her record if she satisfactorily completes her probation.

According to court records, Wolfley repaid the $14,068.34 she had been accused of misappropriating from Bradley Construction, her employer until December 2006, prior to reaching a plea agreement with the Blaine County Prosecuting Attorney's Office.

Arrested in March, Wolfley was originally charged with two felonies, fraudulent use of a financial transaction card and grand theft by embezzlement.

Hailey police reported at the time of Wolfley's arrest that she was in the process of moving to Seattle.

Court records further say the arrest was Wolfley's "first brush with the law."
