The Hailey Police Department issued citations to nine teenagers last week, one for battery and the other eight for minor consumption of alcohol.

Police Chief Brian McNary said Monday that Brenda Bautista, an 18-year-old Hailey girl, was issued a citation for misdemeanor battery for allegedly punching a 13-year-old girl. The citation was issued April 24 for an incident the day before near the Community Campus in Hailey.

McNary said the older girl allegedly "pulled her hair and punched her in the face."

Sgt. Steve England said Bautista was upset because the younger girl was "talking smack about her."

In an unrelated incident, police issued minor consumption of alcohol citations to eight teenagers who were at a party early Saturday morning at the Snow Mountain Apartments in the Woodside area of Hailey.

McNary identified three of the accused as Araceli Marquez, 19; Paula C. Lopez, 18, and Juan Zavala-Nunez, 19, all from Hailey. Names of the other five were not released because they are all under 18 and have juvenile status, the chief said.

"Some were cited and released, some were turned over to their parents," McNary said.
