A 5-year-old Bellevue-area girl is recovering at a Boise hospital after being run over by a lawnmower Saturday evening.

The girl, whose name was not released, was transported by emergency medical helicopter to Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center after the mishap, which occurred around 6 p.m. She was initially taken to St. Luke's Wood River Medical Center, south of Ketchum, and flown to Boise from there.

"She was admitted to the ER with severe trauma to her right leg, consisting of fractures and lacerations to the upper and lower leg," said Wood River Fire and Rescue Chief Bart Lassman. "She was such a trooper though—she was talking to us the whole time."

Lassman said the accident occurred at a home on Baseline Road, south of Bellevue.

"Two kids were playing on a riding mower and they said the girl was bouncing or fell off the back of it," Lassman said. "It was an accident, purely an accident."

The chief said he was told that the girl will be in the hospital for at least two weeks and there is a possibility that she will undergo additional surgery.
