Wood River tennis team wins in Jerome

Wolverines capture 9-3 victory over conference rivals

The Wood River High School tennis team put on a strong performance Tuesday in Jerome to beat the Tigers 9-3.

Winning all but three singles matches, the Wolverines improved their Great Basin Conference West record to 5-3. Wood River is 7-4-1 overall.

Mixed doubles partners Cory Rutkowski and Whitney DeBree continued their winning ways, blanking their Tiger opponents 6-0, 6-0 to extend their perfect season's record to 12-0.

Also remaining undefeated is the Wolverines' boys doubles duo of Connor Fairman and Morgan Pike who won in Jerome 6-4, 6-0.

The Wood River tennis team will be in Boise today and Saturday for the Capital Invitational.

Boys' singles: Adriel Apter (Jerome) 6-4, 6-2 over Alex Henning (WR); Danny Jackson (Jerome) 6-3, 6-1 over Tristan Tanner (WR); R.J. Forgeon (WR) 6-0, 6-2 over Travyn Mapes (Jerome).

Girls' singles: Anna Chrysikopoulos (WR) 6-0, 6-0 over Dorothy Lopez (Jerome); Tanya Greenwood (WR) 6-0, 6-0 over Candice Seibold (Jerome); Breanna Gilbert (Jerome) 2-6, 6-4, 6-0 over Tory Lakey (WR).

Boys' doubles: Connor Fairman and Morgan Pike (WR) 6-4, 6-0 over Danny Laskike and Jared Gardner (Jerome); Paul Davis and Brendan Freund (WR) 6-1, 5-7, 6-1 over Jordan Meservy and Josiah Higley (Jerome).

Girls' doubles: Kira Gardner and Tessa Barrow (WR) 6-4, 6-3 over Melissa Fairbrother and Sam Sobotka (Jerome): Rosie Bauer and Jordan Hendrix (WR) 6-4, 1-6, 6-1 over Gem Hair and Marion Bowler (Jerome).

Mixed doubles: Cory Rutkowski and Whitney DeBree (WR) 6-0, 6-0 over A.J. Hernandez and Leticia Juarez (Jerome); Ben Leopold and Alex Mallea (WR) 6-4, 7-6 over Eric Novis and Rachel Pickett (Jerome)
