Two women were hospitalized following a one-car rollover east of Carey late Sunday afternoon.

Blaine County Sheriff's Office spokesman Lt. Jay Davis said Marlene Nicholson, 64, of Meridian, was westbound on Highway 20 with a passenger, Ferna S. Hicks, 66, of Las Vegas, Nev., at about 4:35 p.m. The road was wet and slick following a recent rain and snow storm.

About nine miles east of Carey, Nicholson's 2002 Ford Escape slid sideways and began to veer off the south side of the highway. She overcorrected and the car slid off the north side of the road and overturned.

Nicholson's arm was trapped under the car through the sunroof, and she had to be extricated from the car.

She was transported to Gooding to meet a fixed-wing Lifeflight crew, which took her to St. Luke's Regional Medical Center in Boise.

Wood River Fire and Rescue Chief Bart Lassman reported that Nicholson's relatives told him she was recovering Monday at the hospital following surgery to save her arm. Hicks was transported to St. Luke's Wood River Medical Center with minor injuries.
