Rink closes Sunday for six weeks

It's been a long time coming, but one Grand Dame of Skating is finally receiving a much-needed face-lift.

Sun Valley Resort's 33-year-old indoor ice rink, which the Sun Valley Suns men's hockey team and countless other hockey teams call home, is receiving an overhaul.

"The boards, glass and pipes underneath the rink will all be replaced," Cory Lovoi, rink manager said.

Lovoi said the existing plexi-glass will be replaced by tempered glass, which is a more durable material that is less likely to scratch or cloud up.

"The boards will be your standard steel boards, which should be a little softer than what we have. The caps will be blue instead of green," he added.

Lovoi said management has been serious about making the improvements for about a year and the project will take six weeks to complete.

"I told them we need it back by June 1," Lovoi said.

The indoor rink will close this Sunday, April 15 for the refurbishing project.
