Driver accused of driving while intoxicated

Two Hailey men were transported to St. Luke's Wood River Medical Center last week following a one-vehicle rollover on Buttercup Road north of Hailey.

Blaine County sheriff's spokesman Sgt. Jay Davis said the mishap occurred shortly after midnight on Wednesday, March 21, when a northbound red 1997 GMC sport-utility vehicle failed to negotiate the sharp left turn on Buttercup Road just east of its intersection with state Highway 75. He said the vehicle slid off the road and hit some rocks, flew 30 feet through the air, rolled 1.5 times and landed on its top.

Davis said the driver, John R. Lanzarone, 24, was ejected from the vehicle. "He had some good injuries, but I wouldn't say life-threatening injuries," Davis said.

He said a passenger, Arthur Drew Knoepfel, 21, received lesser injuries but was also transported to the hospital by a Wood River Fire and Rescue ambulance.

Davis said the men had apparently been drinking prior to the mishap and Lanzarone was cited for allegedly driving while intoxicated.

Neither man was wearing a seatbelt, Davis said.
