Hailey police reported Monday that an 18-year-old Bellevue man is suspected of illegally shooting a gun in the Hailey city limits.

Investigation into two incidents of "shots fired" in the city on March 8 led police to identify Joshua Clayton Poe as a possible shooter, said Police Chief Brian McNary.

He said Poe allegedly fired a .380 automatic handgun near the Valley View Apartments on Second Avenue at about 10:30 p.m. on March 8, but a second suspect is being sought for firing a weapon at about 11 p.m. the same evening at the Snow Mountain Apartments.

McNary said a .380 shell casing was found at Valley View and police received an "anonymous" tip that led them to Poe, who had a .380 clip in his pocket when questioned and admitted to owning a .380 handgun, which he turned over to police.

"He admitted to firing it in the air at the Valley View Apartments," McNary said. "He did not fire it at a dwelling—he fired it into the air."

McNary said a charge of illegally discharging a firearm within the city limits is pending against Poe, who was released from police custody after questioning.
