Wood River High School's Chance McCroskey was one stroke off of a first place finish at Wednesday's Great Basin Conference golf match at the Jerome Country Club.

McCroskey, who shot a 78, finished fourth nonetheless, tying for that position with Jordan Allen of Pocatello.

First place honors were shared by Jerome's Brandon Kincheloe and Pocatello's Zach Spain and Brady Fay, who all shot 77.

Pocatello won the match with a score of 311. Jerome was second with 326, Burley third with 331, Wood River fourth with 342, Minico fifth with 345 and Century sixth with 350.

Other Wood River golfers were Crockett Stearns with 81, Jonathan Hobbs with 88, Pete Gove with 95 and Brian Towne with 98.

Jerome dominated the girls' action, taking first with 394. Century claimed second with 469, Burley third with 475, Pocatello fourth with 482 and Minico fifth with 499.

Wood River fielded only two girl golfers and didn't qualify for team status. For the Wolverines, Nicole Gillette shot 137 and Jill Feldhusen 119.

Community School at Gooding

Community School golfer Spencer Harris shot a 51 to tie for third at a high school nine-hole golf meet Tuesday at the Gooding Country Club.

The Community School didn't qualify as a team for the meet because it sent only two golfers. In addition to Harris, Jeff Gaecke participated and shot a 71.

"Both of these were good rounds for the first time out and for Jeff's first time on the team," said Community School coach Harry Weekes.

Other team members who will compete at later events are juniors Max Harris, Cody Boeger and Christian Dallago and freshman Taylor Riviello.

Wendell High School took top honors at the event with a team score of 190. Glenns Ferry was second at 217, followed by Valley with 237 and Oakley with 243.

Low shooter for the boys was Wendell's Math Luth with a 39. Second was Logan Briggs, also from Wendell, with 44. Spencer Harris tied at third with Daniel Burns, Valley, and Taylor Owen from Glenns Ferry.
