Hailey's Spencer Cordovano was the top snowboarder at last week's USCSA National Championships at Winter Park, Colo. and led Sierra Nevada College to a repeat of a national title.
Cordovano, a freshman at SNC and a 2006 Wood River High School graduate, won the individual overall combined title by taking first in the halfpipe and second in the grand slalom.
According to an SNC press release, Cordovano performed a "picture perfect run down the halfpipe, featuring three giant hits and a 540- that received a huge round of cheers from the crowd."
"I knew Spencer was a fit for this competition as I watched him all year," said SNC coach Tony Carlstrom "He worked hard all season on his freestyle events and relied on his expertise in racing to dominate this competition. Spencer has had a great year for the team and on his own at other FIS races."
Led by Cordovano, SNC dominated the competition to claim the title for the second straight year.
SNC was particularly dominate in the giant slalom, with Cordovano and teammates Keith Davis and Seth Gunsauls combining for a performance that was 15 seconds faster than UCLA, the next fastest team.
"People were blown away by our performance in the gates," said Carlstrom.
Meanwhile, Cordovano's performances at the national championships and other events this season have earned him a spot on the Men's Alpine s team of 2007 USASA All American Team, which will compete at the 2007 USASA National Championships starting Match 31 at Northside-at-Tahoe in California.
