Sun Valley hosts high school hockey tournament

Suns midget team hopes for another state championship

After winning a state championship last weekend in Boise, the red hot Sun Valley Suns Midget U18 hockey team takes to the ice again this weekend to host the Idaho State High School Tournament at the Sun Valley Skating Center.

Hockey action starts today in the seven-team state championship tournament that includes teams from Idaho Falls, the Boise area, Salmon and the Wood River Valley.

The Suns, a private club team representing Wood River High School, enter the tournament with high hopes after going 4-1 to win last weekend's Idaho Amateur Hockey Association state championship.

Today's games start at 4 p.m. when the Boise team based in Meridian plays Skyline of Idaho Falls. Salmon takes on Boise High School at 5:45 p.m.

The Suns play their first game at 7:30 p.m. against Hillcrest of Idaho Falls. The evening's final match starts at 9:15 p.m. with Idaho Falls taking on the Meridian team.

Saturday's action pits Skyline against the Suns at 10 a.m., Hillcrest against Boise at 11:45 a.m., Salmon against Idaho Falls at 1:30 p.m. and Meridian against the Suns at 3:15 p.m.

Also Saturday, Skyline plays Hillcrest at 5 p.m., Salmon plays Meridian at 6:45 p.m. and Boise plays Idaho Falls at 8:30 p.m.

Results from today's and Saturday's games will decide placements for matches on Sunday.

Fifth and sixth place teams will square off at 10 a.m. and third and fourth place teams will play at 11:45 a.m.

The championship game between the first and second place teams is set for 1:30 p.m.
