Soldier Mountain downhill kicks off Monday

Mike Levy is Chief of Course and Ken Corrock is Chief of Race for next week's Soldier Mountain Downhill/Sammis Camas Cup series of speed races at Soldier Mountain north of Fairfield.

"Snow conditions are good and we anticipate a field of 100 racers from the valley and throughout the western U.S. on the Monument Salmon River track," said Corrock.

The USSA Intermountain Masters and Molecule F Speed Series events covers three days and features these activities:

Monday, Feb. 26: Pre-race training and Downhill Speed Camp with Corrock and former U.S. Ski Team racer Andy Chambers. Cost is $65 including a lift ticket. Sign up on the morning of the camp.

Tuesday, Feb. 27: Mandatory downhill training and the 10th annual Sammis Camas Cup Memorial race ($30). Entry deadline is 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at Soldier, same time as the competitors' meeting. All racers must be present for the meeting and releases must be signed.

Wednesday, Feb. 28: Soldier Mountain USSA/Intermountain Masters downhill consisting of one downhill run and one run of slalom to make up the Super Combined race ($35 per start, $10 for the Super Combined).

It's the fifth stop of the Molecule F Speed Series for Masters. Soldier Mountain will be closed to the general public for skiing on this day, but spectators are encouraged to root 'em on.
