Sun Valley snowboarders parlayed fresh powder and athletic prowess into some serious podium placement at Park City and Snowbasin.
The lone technical races of the USASA season were staged at the Utah ski resorts over the President's Day holiday.
"Everything seemed to work out," said coach Chatham Baker. "Athletes crushed their respective divisions and the location of the giant slalom course allowed for long powder runs from the top of Snowbasin between races."
Sun Valley coach Mike Connelly was in charge of a five-man crew for Friday's slaloms at Park City and he had similar sentiments.
"I was impressed with our kids' ability to focus on racing for four runs," he said. "As you would expect, our kids are fast from riding the steeps of Sun Valley."
Chase Josey swept the Menehune Boys class, winning all four races: two slalom and two giant slalom. Kelly Collins duplicated the feat in the Breaker Girls class.
Peter Driscoll pulled down a first, two seconds and a fourth in the Junior Men's division.
In Youth Men, Gavin Admire was runner-up twice in slalom and fourth twice in GS in a field which featured two defending USASA national champions.
Caitlyn Admire (Menehune Girls) collected two silver medals in slalom. Josh Morell and Charlie Harder (Breaker Boys) finished 2-3 twice in giant slalom. The races were the first of Harder's snowboarding career.
Sun Valley shredders return to Utah this weekend for slopestyle at Snowbird.
