Wood River High School varsity wrestlers came up with three wins Tuesday in Twin Falls against the Bruins, but too many Wolverine forfeits contributed to a 60-13 Twin Falls victory.
The Bruins won six weight divisions because the Wolverines were unable to field a wrestler.
"When you have holes or open weights in your lineup, the score will obviously favor the other team," said Wolverine coach Tyson Young. "However, the improvement that our boys displayed was outstanding."
Wrestling at 135 pounds, Tanner Orchard recorded the only pin for the Wolverines. But Wood River's Jordan Vert (160 pounds) and Collin Hand (189 pounds) easily handled their Bruin opponents to win by decisions.
"Our individual goals for each match are improvement, and that is exactly what we are doing," Young said. "To be successful in the sport of wrestling requires extreme work ethic and our guys are starting to realize that."
The Wolverines face a busy schedule over the next week. Today and Saturday finds the team at the Sugar-Salem Invitational in Sugar City. On Tuesday, Jan. 30, the Wolverines host Jerome and Buhl in tri-meet action, and on Wednesday, Jan. 31, the team travels to Pocatello for a meet against Century.
