Sun Valley swimmers compete at Igloo meet

Atkinson and Collins bring home the gold


Sun Valley 5B swimmers were among some 200 swimmers from three states who competed Saturday, Jan. 20, at the 2007 Igloo Pentathlon at the Twin Falls City Pool.

Two SV5B competitors brought home gold. Fourteen-year-old Jon Atkinson won first place in the boys 13-14 100 Back and 17-year-old McKenna Collins did the same in the girls 15-over 100 Breast. Atkinson took bronze in the boys 13-14 100 Free.

Two other SV5B swimmers won second-place silver at the event. Natalie Hague, 17, won silver in both the girls 17-over 100 Free and 200 IM, while Megan Hayes, 15, silvered in the girls 15-over 100 Fly. Hayes also won bronze in the 100 Free.

Other third place bronze finishes were recorded by SV5B competitors Forest Davis, 12, in the boys 11-12 50 Fly, 50 Breast and 50 Free, by Tori Emerick, 13, in the girls 13-14 100 Back and by Kaedi Fry, 10, in the girls 9-10 50 Fly, 50 Back and 50 Free.

In other SV5B news, 16-year-old Racheal McGinnis competed against college and Olympic swimmers on Jan. 17-20 at the Washington Open Senior Qualifying Meet in Seattle. McGinnis placed 16th in consolation finals in the 50 Free and swam a personal best of 54.45 to place 20th in the 100 Free.

Back at the Igloo meet, other SV5B swimmers placed as follows:

Samantha Sutton, 10, 5th in 50 Fly, 50 Back and 100 IM.

Elizabeth Fry, 12, 6th in 50 Fly.

Lena Friesen, 12, 15th in 50 Back and 50 Free.

Taylor Bates, 11, 11th in 50 Back.

Chrystal Tullis, 11, 28th in 50 Back and 50 Breast.

J.T. Sutton, 13, 5th in 1 00 Fly.

Colby Werley, 12, 12th in 50 Breast.

Kelsey Syms, 11, 35th in 50 Free.

Sean Sutton, 13, 7th in 200 IM.

Broadie Burrell, 13, 10th in 100 Back.

Lacy Werley, 16, 5th in 100 Back and 100 Breast.

Taylor Straley, 17, 5th in 200 IM.

Ashleigh Share, 15, 8th in 200 IM

Cole Newcomb, 16, 5th in 100 Breast.

Rian Ervin, 18, 4th in 100 Breast.

Esther Williams, 15, 10th in 100 Breast.
