Jail bond OK makes sense

There is no question that Blaine County needs a new jail. The current one does not meet jail standards and there have been plans to replace it for at least 10 years. Incorporating a consolidated dispatch center and a sheriff's office into the plans makes sense and both are, and should be, high community priorities.

On the Feb. 6 Special Election, voters should support Blaine County's proposal to fund a new public safety facility by authorizing a bond. Few property tax dollars will be needed since the county will use available federal and state funds, money from liquor sales and fees for a variety of services to pay off most of the bond.

While serving on the Ketchum City Council, I researched and supported the issue of consolidating Ketchum's emergency dispatch office with the county. When this new facility is built, this much needed consolidation will finally happen and efficiencies will result.

Please join me in voting "yes" on the county bond measure on Tuesday, Feb. 6.
