Wood River girls fall to Jerome

The Wolverine girls tried to make it a fight, but were unable to stop the Tiger juggernaut in basketball action Tuesday night in Jerome.

When the smoke had settled, it was Jerome High School 65, Wood River High School 37. The victory capped an 11-game winning streak for the 14-3 Jerome girls.

The Wood River girls fell to 4-12.

Despite the loss, Wolverine junior post Lauren Morganthaler continued her double-digit scoring, netting 19 points for the evening. Senior guard Kristen Miniard also had a hot hand with 16.

Jerome was led by Molly Reid with 15 points and Jordan Burnham with 12.

The Tigers led 22-13 at the end of the first period, 42-17 at half and 60-24 at the close of the third. The Wolverines outscored the Tigers 13-5 in the final bracket, but it was too little too late.

The Wolverine girls take a week's break before hosting Kimberly on Wednesday, Jan. 24.
