No foul play suspected; death appears accidental

Sun Valley police are investigating the death of an Elkhorn Village woman who was found dead in her apartment the afternoon of Thursday, Jan. 11.

Initial investigation revealed no evidence of foul play, and the death appears accidental, said Sun Valley Police Chief Cameron Daggett.

He identified the woman as 52-year-old Carla Pulliam, a longtime area resident who was employed in Ketchum at both Janes Business Copy & Creative and the China Panda restaurant.

Daggett said the investigation started when co-workers at Janes told police on Thursday that Pulliam had not reported to work. After locating her Elkhorn Village apartment, Daggett said Pulliam's body was found at the bottom of a stairway than ran from the main floor of the apartment to a sleeping loft.

Daggett said there was a bump on Pulliam's head, but a preliminary autopsy report indicates she did not die from "blunt trauma."

He said a potential overdose of prescription medication is being investigated as a possible cause of death.

"A fall down the stairs did not kill her," Daggett said. "We don't have the actual cause of death yet, other than it wasn't blunt trauma."

Daggett said the door to Pulliam's apartment was unlocked when officers arrived, but there was no evidence of forced entry or any indication of foul play. Valuables and money were found in plain sight in the apartment, he said.
