There?s a grinch in Elkhorn

If your newspaper has a "Grinch of the Year" award, I would nominate the Elkhorn Golf Club and their yellow-cap-wearing employee who kicks children off of the tee box on No. 9 and then destroys (abol-ishes with a shovel and "steals" the scarf that was around the neck) of the snowman made by the children!

I have been a visiting resi-dent of The Ridge for over eight years. During that time, all of my visiting children have played (and used their sleds, made snowmen, skied, etc.) on the No. 9 tee box (even when it was No. 8)! To the best of my knowledge there has been no damage done to that tee box or the slope in front of it!

For years before Troon took over the course and during their tenure I have played the Elkhorn golf course. I have never noticed nor been made aware of any damage done to the course because of my grandchildren's sledding on the No. 9 tee box. Incidentally, my children are not the only ones who slide on this little hill.

However, last week and then again this week, a yellow-capped "protector" has told the children to "get off of the golf course, it is private property!" I told him to return the scarf that was on the snowman and he replied, "It is my scarf now!"

The response of Elkhorn's employee and the keeping of the scarf is not in the spirit of nor reflective of the relation-ships that I have had with any-one connected with Sun Valley.

Elkhorn Golf Club either has an "officious intermeddler" for an employee or someone who thinks pushing children off tee boxes and destroying their snowmen in the winter is the way to "protect your private property!"

Elkhorn Golf Club deserves the title of "Grinch" of 2007!
