Cutthroats split with Blue Devils

Boys win 56-54, girls fall 40-30

The Community School boys' basketball team came out on top of a seesaw battle with a 56-54 road win over the Dietrich Blue Devils Wednesday evening. The Cutthroat girls' didn't fare as well, losing 40-30 in Dietrich Tuesday.

The boys' Magic Valley Northside Conference victory put the team at 4-4 for the season and dropped Dietrich to 3-6.

Mac Whittington led the Cutthroats in scoring with 18 points. He was followed by Spencer Harris with 17 and Ian Ingram, who hit three 3-pointers for nine. Whittington also pulled down 10 rebounds and Harris captured eight.

Dietrich was led in scoring by Nigel Higgenbotham with 16 and Dakota Norman with 13.

The Cutthroats led 13-11 at the end of the first period and went into halftime up 25-20. But the Blue Devils closed the margin in the third to end the period at 42-42.

The Cutthroats host Bliss tonight at 6 p.m. and travel to Fairfield Saturday for a 4 p.m. match with the Camas County Mushers. Tuesday, Jan. 9, the Cutthroats host Shoshone at 6 p.m.

Cutthroat girls fall 40-30

The Community School girls' varsity basketball team dropped its eighth straight with a 40-30 loss at Dietrich Tuesday evening.

The Cutthroat girls hung close but were unable to overcome the charity line shots of the Blue Devils, who hit 13 of 19.

The Cutthroats kept it close in the first quarter, trailing only 11-9. But their game cooled off in the second period, when they scored only two points leaving them with a halftime deficit of 17-11.

The Community School outscored the Blue Devils in the third, closing to within five but still trailing 27-22. But Dietrich regained the momentum in the final frame, outscoring the Cutthroats 13-8 for the final 40-30 victory.

Tammy Anderson led the 5-7 Blue Devils in scoring with 12 points.

The Cutthroats (0-8) were led by Cody Curran and Amaya Ingram with seven points each. Jessie Curran and Caroline Fairchild contributed six apiece. Jean Montgomery added four.

The Community School girls' varsity team next plays Camas County in Fairfield at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
