Cross-country ski lessons start Jan. 8

Recreation district offers three levels of classes

The Blaine County Recreation District's Nordic Ski School will offer three levels of group skate ski classes beginning Jan. 8 at Quigley Nordic.

Skiers can choose from beginner, intermediate or advanced lessons.

The beginner class is geared to the first-time or inexperienced skier who wants to learn or improve skating technique. The first session will meet once a week on Fridays at Quigley Nordic from noon to 1 p.m. beginning Jan. 12 and continuing through Jan. 26. Two more beginner sessions of three classes each will follow.

Intermediate level skate skiers will benefit from classes focused on skating technique, efficiency, and speed. Skiers will learn to finesse V-2, V-1, and V-2 alternate techniques. This group will meet on Mondays from noon to 1 p.m. beginning Jan. 8 and continuing through Jan. 22.

The advanced level skate ski group will also focus on technique improvement but will be geared towards training for racing. The advanced session will meet on Wednesdays from 4:30-5:30 p.m. beginning Jan. 10 and continuing through Jan. 24. A North Valley Trail pass is required and participants must provide their own ski gear.

Blaine County Recreation District Nordic ski instructors include Darla McRoberts, EJ Harpham, Katherine Sheldon, and Pam Street. Private lessons are also available. For more information call the Blaine County Recreation District at 788-2117.
