In Ketchum or up a creek?

Your editorial a couple weeks ago has opened up a long overdue debate. I agree that streets need to be renamed but not particularly the ones you suggested or for the reasons mentioned. How about all the duplication of names throughout the valley? Anyone in a service industry has to negotiate Aspen Drive (Warm Springs), Aspen Drive (China Gardens), Aspen Drive in the south valley (Deer Creek), and South Aspen Drive up north in Eagle Creek, Aspen Lane, Aspen Valley, Aspen Hollow, Aspen Lakes, Aspen Circle. You get the idea.

The same applies to Cottonwood and its derivatives all over the county (Ketchum, Hailey, East Fork, Lake Creek), Blue Grouse in Sun Valley and Hulen Meadows, Camas in Elkhorn and Gimlet, Canyon in East Fork and Gimlet as well as at least eight Willow something or others. Make an error with Sage and you're in Warm Springs, Hulen Meadows or Twin Creeks, far from your intended destination. It's one thing to delay your UPS or FedEx package but quite another for the 911 dispatcher trying to get the fire trucks to your house.

Now, I know, it will cost money for all those new street signs, but that can be financed from the huge savings derived from consolidating the various police and fire departments and eliminating the waste from those duplications.

Good luck. Should be a piece of cake.
