Mary (Gladys) McAtee


Mary (Gladys) McAtee, 92, died Dec. 16, 2006, at her home in Hailey, Idaho. She was born in Center, Colo., on March 4, 1914. She was the second youngest child of 11 born to John and Viola Smith. She grew up in Center, and married Val McAtee on Dec. 7, l930, in Saguache, Colo. They moved to Ketchum, Idaho, in 1936, and her husband was employed at Sun Valley. They moved to Hailey and started ranching.

Gladys is survived by two children, Marilyn Shilue of Wallowa, Ore., and Kent McAtee of Hailey, Idaho; three grandchildren, Vince McAtee of Hagerman, Idaho, Robert Shilue, of Sunset Beach, Calif., and Cammie McAtee of Montreal, Quebec; one great grand-daughter, Marilyn Nicole Gonzalez; and two great-great grandsons, Adrian and Ivan Gonzalez, of Shoshone, Idaho.

Gladys was preceded in death by her parents and 10 brothers and sisters, her husband and her son, Wayne McAtee.

Gladys was an active member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church, a 65-year member of the Rebecca Lodge, and a 62-year member of the Order of Eastern Star. She was honored to be chosen as a Heritage Court queen in 2005.

Gladys will be remembered by her family and her friends as a person who truly loved all, especially her family, and who "loved" to cook.

Memorial services will be held Thursday, Dec. 28, 2006, at 1 p.m. at Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Hailey. Interment will be on Saturday, May 19, 2007, at the Hailey Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Hailey, Idaho, or Hospice of the Wood River Valley, based in Ketchum.

Arrangements are under the care of Demaray Funeral Chapel, Gooding, Idaho.
