Police investigate vehicle burglaries

By TERRY SMITH

The Hailey Police Department is investigating several car burglaries that occurred in the Woodside area of the city sometime Sunday night or early Monday morning.

Police Chief Brian McNary said four unlocked vehicles were burglarized on Briarwood Drive, while windows were broken in a fifth vehicle at the Snow Mountain Apartments a few blocks away.

McNary said he doesn't know if the Briarwood Drive and Snow Mountain burglaries are related.

He said an estimated $2,000 worth of stereo equipment, radar detectors, tools and other items was stolen from the five vehicles.

McNary said there have been about 15 vehicle burglaries in Hailey in 2006. He said that number is down significantly from past years, when an average of 30 to 40 vehicle burglaries occurred each year.
