Two sides to the coin

Recently, I heard someone on the street make a remark concerning the large influx of Hispanics into the country in recent years. I have noticed this. I also know that we have laws in place that answer such concerns.

Who makes these remarks, such as the ones that I refer to? As long as these laws are on the books, they must be enforced. If we are not going to enforce these laws, they should be removed. To leave these laws on the books and not enforce them sends a very dangerous message. I, personally, have no problem with foreigners entering the country legally to vote, work, pay taxes, obey the law and maybe do their military service.

Now, there are two sides to every coin. So, let's turn the coin over and look at the other side. On the other side of the coin I see two words: manifest destiny. Some of you may remember this phrase from school. It goes back to a time in our history when one day America just arbitrarily decided that we would own all the land all the way to the Pacific Ocean without ever stopping to consider whether or not someone else already owned that land—like, maybe, Mexico. But that didn't stop us. We had a great solution: We would just start a war with them and take it from them. And that's just what we did. So, the next time you think about using words like "wetback" or "illegal alien," this is something you might want to keep in mind.
