Hunters cited for shooting elk in Sun Valley

Two Rupert men have been issued misdemeanor citations for allegedly shooting elk within the city limits of Sun Valley.

Sun Valley Police Chief Cameron Daggett identified the hunters as Jerry Tominaga, 49, and Grant Killoy, 46. Both are accused of discharging a firearm within the city limits, an offense punishable by up to a $300 fine and six months in jail.

Daggett said police were called to the Blue Grouse residential area east of Elkhorn Village at about 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 15.

"We found two adults and a teenager who had killed three cow elk," Daggett said. "They had tags, and it would have been a legal hunt had they not been in the city of Sun Valley."

He said the animals were shot in a brush area above the residential area.

Daggett said the teenager wasn't cited, and rifles used by the two adults were confiscated. The hunters were allowed to keep the elk, he said.

Sun Valley police have received several reports of hunters in the city limits this fall. In October, Matthew R. Park, 33, of Fairfield, was cited for discharging a firearm within the city limits after he allegedly killed a deer on Dollar Mountain.
