New club opens at nexStage Theatre

Club U21 Idaho gives young adults a night life

Too old for a babysitter and too young to go out on the town? It's a common story plaguing teenagers looking for something to do at night. Offering young people an option, Club U21 Idaho, a new dance club for the under 21 set, will debut on Friday, Nov. 24, at the nexStage Theatre in Ketchum.

From 7:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., the nexStage Theatre will transform into a club-like atmosphere complete with dance floor and elaborate lighting featuring the mix mastering sounds of DJ "Caesar."

Club U21 founder Dana Scott, who happens to be a father to a teenage son, developed the idea while working with some summer high school hires.

"Over the last five years that I have been in the area, I noticed that there's not too much to do for young people. There's bowling at the Sun Valley Lodge or a movie, and that's it," Scott said.

The idea is to create a lounge-like setting that's similar to a real club but for young adults. It will be a place they can meet, dance and enjoy an evening.

"It's going to be fun, and it could be very popular," Scott said. "It depends upon attracting enough kids."

The support for Club U21 has been very positive. Scott hired DJ "Caesar" on the recommendation of high school kids, and when he approached the nexStage Theater for a site, it did not hesitate to offer the space.

"The nexStage is allowing us to have total use of its lighting, which is one of the best things," Scott said. "DJ 'Caesar' has all of his own electronics, and there are four Idaho radio stations promoting it."

Scott hopes that with the success of Club U21, the event can take place two times a month. Apparently nothing like this exists in Idaho, he said.

"The beauty will be that, if it's done right and becomes popular, the parents will be my best supporters," said Scott. "It's good clean fun in a safe venue where parents don't have to worry."

It costs $15 to enter ClubU21, and kids can sign-up on the Web site as well as pay at the door. For more details, call 471-0478 or visit www.clubU21id.com.
