Blaine Housing Authority hires new leader

The onetime director of Boise's community housing program has been picked to be the new director of the Blaine/Ketchum Housing Authority.

Jim Fackrell, 46, succeeds Michael David, who resigned to become the executive director of the McCall, Idaho, housing program.

For the past 18 months, Fackrell has served as executive director of the Wyoming Housing Network. Prior to the Wyoming post, Fackrell spent 11 years in Boise as head of housing and community development.

His initial impressions of the Wood River Valley's affordable housing is that it's "a lot to be desired." He said the program is "behind the curve," saying "a lot of tools need to be looked at" to expand and accelerate development of affordable housing for valley workers.

Fackrell is married with a daughter, who's a senior at the University of Idaho, and a son, who's a junior at Bishop Kelly High School in Boise.

Authority Chairwoman Susan Passovoy hailed Fackrell's appointment, saying that "his ability to work with local governments in forging new partnerships and attracting the necessary funds and nonprofit development organizations to create the much needed affordable housing in the Wood River Valley will be a tremendous asset."
