Wood River Valley-based mountain bikers dominated the 2006 Northwest NORBA Singlespeed Championships staged Oct. 8 as part of the Wild Rockies races at Bogus Basin.

Pro rider Cody Peterson of Hailey (3-D Racing/RFP) put the hammer down and never looked back for 21.7 miles, winning the singlespeed men's division by over six minutes with a final clocking of 1.30:59.

Wood River riders Pete Ross, Reed Melton and Marc Driver staged a tremendous race for second through fifth places. And Ketchum's Muffy Ritz won the singlespeed women in 1.51:50 for the 21.7-mile course.

The singlespeed championships featured a special, very tough six-mile leg that tied into the start of the Bogus to Boise Banzai course starting from the top of Bogus Basin near Boise.

On the same day, Fairfield professional mountain bike racer Dave Harrison, 42, captured the 15.5-mile Bogus to Boise Banzai mass-start downhill race, part of the 2006 Boise Co-Op Wild Rockies Series.

Harrison's final time was 42:54. Bellevue's Moses Mexia of Scott USA (43:34) was second.

Perfect weather and temperatures greeted the 262 participants in the day's activities, which included a one-mile downhill and 15.5-mile trail run. Hailey's Tiffany Larson won the women's trail run in 1.51:37, good for third overall. Hailey's Frank Aldana (1.52:50) was fifth and won his class.

In the Sport Men 40-up downhill for the one-mile descent, Randy Earle of Hailey (Reed Cycle) won in 2:31.45 and Rolf Hebenstreit of Ketchum was third in 2:43.62. Hebenstreit and Earle placed 1-2 in the season DH class ranks.
