Blaine County School District Superintendent Jim Lewis this week outlined his goals to help ensure academic success in the county. His comments came during the Blaine County School District board of trustees' meeting Tuesday, Oct. 10.

The superintendent said he would continue to provide academic leadership to meet federal No Child Left Behind requirements during the 2006-2007 school year. The district fell short of adequate academic yearly progress goals in four sub-categories during the latest round of state testing.

Lewis also said he would like to make professional learning communities a priority, or teaming professionals to help children.

His other goals include following through with the neighborhood school concept and securing property in the south of Bellevue for an elementary school.

Lewis is involved with educational leadership across the state. He was appointed July 1 to serve as the president of the Idaho Association of School Superintendents. The association's mission is to provide professional development, advocacy and support for school administrators, students and staff in Idaho.

The appointment carries a one-year term. His official duties for the organization will span three years. Last year, Lewis served as the president-elect of the association, and next year he will serve as past president.
