A Bellevue man was killed Sunday morning in a one-vehicle accident four miles south of Bellevue on state Highway 75.

The Blaine County Sheriff's Office identified the victim as 41-year-old Santiago Gonzalez Luevano. He was a passenger in a vehicle driven by Antonio Ruiz-Ramos, 24, also of Bellevue.

Sheriff's office spokesman Sgt. Jay Davis said the accident occurred shortly after 6 a.m. when Ruiz-Ramos lost control of his northbound vehicle, which then ran off the road, struck a concrete culvert and flipped over, landing on its top.

Davis said Ruiz-Ramos and two other passengers were transported to St. Luke's Wood River Medical Center. Luevano was pronounced dead at the scene, he said.

"There were no major injuries other than the deceased, who was the only one in the vehicle not wearing a seatbelt," Davis said.

He said the group was returning from a trip to Jackpot, Nev., when Ruiz-Ramos apparently fell asleep at the wheel.

No citations had been issued as of Tuesday, but the accident was still under investigation. Davis said it is not currently known if alcohol was a factor in the accident.

According to obituary information, Luevano was a native of Mexico who lived in the U.S. for six years. He worked in the Wood River Valley for construction and concrete contractors.

Memorial services are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Charles Catholic Church in Hailey.
