Utah tourism officials are trying to attract a direct flight from Paris, France, to Salt Lake City, a move that could draw additional tourists to the Wood River Valley.
"It would be a key link to international destinations," said Carol Waller, executive director of the Sun Valley-Ketchum Chamber and Visitors Bureau. "With some exceptions, if someone's traveling to Sun Valley, they make several stops. We've been a three- or four-stop destination. This would make us a one-stop destination, which would be a great opportunity. It would be a new market for us."
The Utah Office of Tourism is supporting a statewide effort in Utah's business community to attract a direct flight from Salt Lake City to Paris on Delta Air Lines, according to a news release issued Sept. 26.
The Utah Board of Tourism Development voted to allocate $250,000 from the Tourism Marketing Performance Fund to promote a potential Salt Lake City flight to Europe on Delta, which has a hub in Salt Lake City.
"The state funding is contingent on the Salt Lake City direct flight being in place to Europe," Leigh von der Esch, managing director of the Utah Office of Tourism, said in the release.
The board said the Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport is a hub for international travel, providing service to other major overseas destinations.
