Wolverine spikers clinch Great Basin title

Senior Night set for next Tuesday

Working on their combinations, Wood River High School varsity volleyball players had a fairly relaxed night and got another look at the Minico Spartans during Tuesday's Great Basin Conference West league match in Rupert.

Co-coach Tim Richards said Wood River won 25-13, 25-14, 25-10. Lauren Morgenthaler led the Wolverines in kills and had a good night at the net. Casey Vegwert served well and led the Hailey defense, Richards said. And Kelsey Lidstrom continued her stellar play.

With the victory Wood River (14-8 overall, 5-0 league) clinched the Great Basin regular-season title and earned the home court advantage for the entire Great Basin tournament that starts Monday, Oct. 16, in Hailey. Wood River will play first against #4-seeded Minico that day.

"Senior Night," honoring Vegwert, Lidstrom, Elissa Baker and Leah McIlhenny is Tuesday, Oct. 10, when Burley visits the Hailey gym.

Wood River competes in the sixth annual, 26-team Borah Lions Invitational Friday and Saturday, Oct. 6-7, in the Boise area. Wolverine matches begin at 3 p.m. today, at Capital High School in Boise. In Hailey's six-team pool are Sandpoint, Boise, Lewiston, Vallivue of Caldwell and Nampa.
