Pizza and Politics debate set for Oct. 11

The Idaho Mountain Express will host next week a Pizza and Politics forum for Blaine County Commission candidates to present their platforms and answer questions from the public. The event is set for Wednesday, Oct. 11, at 6: 30 p.m. at the Old County Courthouse in Hailey.

Four candidates are running for two seats on the commission.

Mickey Garcia of Ketchum is challenging incumbent Sarah Michael for the District 3 seat, which represents northern Blaine County. Garcia is running as an Independent. Michael is a Democrat.

Democrat Larry Schoen and Republican Dale Ewersen are battling for the District 1 seat, which covers the south county and is being vacated by Dennis Wright, who's retiring after 10 years on the commission.

Ewersen is a former Bellevue mayor. Schoen, who owns a farm near Silver Creek, is the current chairman of the Blaine County Planning and Zoning Commission.

The election is Tuesday, Nov. 7.

Citizens are invited to attend, ask the candidates questions and eat pizza.

The event, which will be moderated by Mountain Express Publisher Pam Morris, is the only public, non-partisan election debate in the Wood River Valley.

The Mountain Express will provide free pizza.

The Mountain Express has hosted Pizza and Politics debates as a public service for 24 years.
