Ketchum Fire Chief Mike Elle has named longtime Fire Department Captain Robbie Englehart as his assistant chief.

Englehart took over the job Elle occupied before he was promoted to the top slot.

"I'm just excited for the new challenges and working under Chief Elle," Englehart said Tuesday.

Englehart has been in fire services for 29 years, first with the Sun Valley Fire Department as a volunteer. He joined the Ketchum Fire Department in 1980 and was promoted to captain in 1985.

"My main focus will be operations, dealing with the men and women that make up our department, and overseeing the facilities and equipment," Englehart said.

The Ketchum Fire Department could be facing challenges and changes in the near future, including a possible consolidation with the Sun Valley Fire Department.

"Challenges are keeping up with growth and keeping our (personnel) trained and educated for the demands placed on our department," Englehart said.

The KFD is trained in fire fighting, emergency medicine, technical rescue, natural disaster response and hazardous materials.

Englehart said the greatest asset of the KFD is its people.

"Number one is the men and women that make up the department," he said. "They're a great group of folks. I'm very, very proud of them and what we've been able to accomplish."

His promotion was effective Oct. 1.
