Newly named to the U.S. Nordic Ski Team's Continental Cup squad, Community School graduate Morgan Arritola of Fairfield took off climbing Baldy on a mission Saturday.

Forty-one minutes and 34 seconds after leaving the base of Warm Springs ski run, 20-year-old Arritola arrived at Baldy's summit with a new women's record set in the 28th annual Baldy Hill Climb.

Arritola (41:34) made quick work of the previous record of 41:56 set just last year by Jenny Tobin of Boise. She finished in 12th place overall of 112 racing finishers who conquered the 1.86-mile climb covering 3,100 vertical feet up Warm Springs.

The overall winner with the second-fastest time in Baldy climb annals was 18-year-old Miles Fink-Debray of Ketchum (35:31). It was two minutes and 13 seconds faster than Bill Nurge and 1:25 quicker than Fink-Debray's time last year, when he finished second in a photo finish to Whit Albright.

The event attracted 170 finishers including 58 hikers. It was sponsored by the Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation's nordic ski team. Top hikers were Nancy Buxton (53:38) and David Butterfield (54:16).
