Sustainability conference features big-name speakers

Teresa Heinz listed as keynote speaker

The 2006 Sun Valley Sustainability Conference kicks off Wednesday to Friday, Sept. 27, 28 and 29, to educate the community on sustainable issues. The conference will address smart growth, alternative energy, green building, public policy, land-use planning, and green business practices during the three-day event at the Sun Valley Resort.

The conference welcomes Teresa Heinz, chairwoman of the Howard Heinz Family Foundation, and William McDonough, award-winning architect, 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29, as the keynote speakers of the conference. Tickets for the keynote address cost $35. Sales begin Wednesday at noon at the conference. Remaining tickets will be sold at the door for $40 on Friday.

A host of other experts will address attendees 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday and 8 a.m. to noon on Friday at the Sun Valley Opera House. These speakers include Paula Baker-Laporte, author of "Prescription for a Healthy House," and Azby Brown author of "The Very Small House."

Throughout the conference an exhibit hall, located in the Boiler Room, will showcase the latest products and services designed to help professionals and homeowners apply sustainable practices to their lives.

A free public fair happens at 1 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Friday with panel discussions and brief reviews of previous speaker topics.

Continuing education opportunities are offered for architects, legal professionals and real estate professionals.

The cost to attend the conference is $295 per person. A full list of speakers and the agenda are available online at sunvalleysustainability.org.
