Your Five Best

Muzzie Braun lists his five favorite musical inspirations

Muzzie

Muzzie Braun is a second generation country musician, innkeeper and the patriarch of the Braun family of musicians. He lives in Clayton, Id. with his wife, JoAnn.

Kris Kristofferson

The reason I bought my first acoustic guitar and started learning to play music.

(Album highlights: "Me and Bobby McGee" and "The Silver Tongued Devil and I.")

Guy Clark

Singer-songwriter Guy Clark inspired me to write. He writes such great lyrics and simple melodies.

(Album highlight: "Old No. 1.")

John Prine

Singer-songwriter John Prine is the best contemporary songwriter of my era.

(Highlights: "Sweet Revenge," "The Missing Years.")

"San Antonio Rose"

A song written by Texas swing bandleader Bob Wills. I first learned this from my dad, Musty Braun. This song influenced me to start my own Western swing band in the 1970s.

My dad Musty, and my four sons Cody, Willy. Gary and Micky

Theses five members of the Braun family all continue to inspire me and to influence the way I perceive the music around me, whether it was written yesterday or 100 years ago.

(Album highlights: Reckless Kelly's "Wicked Twisted Road," "Under the Table and Above the Sun" and Micky and the Motorcars' "Careless."
