The Wood River High School Wolverines learned what it's like to win a squeaker, pulling off a 13-7 overtime football victory on the road last week against the Filer Wildcats.
The Wolverines had their hands full at Filer High School on Friday, Sept. 8, against a game Wildcat team that the Wolverines defeated 42-0 last year.
The non-conference victory lifted the Wolverine's season record to 2-1.
The Wolverines are on the road again this Friday in a 7 p.m. match against the Buhl Indians, who defeated the American Falls Beavers last week 44-8.
Friday's victory came in overtime on a five-yard run by senior running back Grayson Thompson. The Wolverine's only other points came on a second-quarter 36-yard run by junior running back Matt Libert. Senior Cory Rutkowski kicked the extra point.
Though frustrated by the Wolverine defense most of the game, the Wildcats tied it up in the fourth quarter on one-yard run by Nathan Hughes and extra point conversion by Kody Graham.
Libert led the Wolverines in scoring with 116 yards on 20 attempts. Thompson followed with 40 yards on 10 rushes.
Wolverine quarterback Danny Kramer threw five completions in 13 attempts for 59 passing yards. He was intercepted once.
