The Carey Lady Panthers went 1-1 in their first matches of the year Tuesday night in varsity volleyball action at Carey High School.

In tri-meet play, the Lady Panthers were defeated by the Mackay Lady Miners 25-18, 25-6. But they rebounded in their second match, beating the Hansen Lady Huskies 25-18, 16-25, 15-13.

Lady Panther Coach Kathy Whitworth said her team did well, especially considering that she only has four players with varsity experience.

"All the girls played pretty good," Whitworth said. "They had their first game jitters in the first game. But against Hansen they stepped it up. I'm sure by the end of the year we'll be better. They want to get better. They're a good bunch of girls.

The Lady Panthers next game was Thursday night in Fairfield.
